Charles Shaw (AKA 2 Buck Chuck) Pinot Grigio 2010

A Wine Moment with Delaina

We are finally getting a reprieve from the heat here in KC yet this wine moment still steps out of my red MO.

As Trader Joe’s is new here, it has became clear that 2 Buck Chuck is a big hit. As we are walking around the store I keep hearing people asking about or loading their carts with cases of the Charles Shaw wine. While all this is happening I realized that I have never reviewed any of the Charles Shaw wines, so I thought now would be a good time to do so.

There was not a Rose (as I am on a Rose kick) so I went for the Pinot Grigio. I was not disappointed.

Although the 2 Buck Pinot Grigio 2010 featured only a hint of the Pinot Grigio bite that I like, I found it to be very nice. The Pinot Grigio flavor is stronger in the aftertaste; the first taste is more the flavor of a nice buttery chardonnay.

I mixed regions for dinner tonight and paired the Pinot Grigio with a Taco Salad (yes the ingredients came from Trader Joes) it was a great pairing. I am sure the Pinto Grigio would pair nicely with the Trader Joe’s Flounder stuffed with crab meat as well.

In fact the pairing of  the Flounder would be ideal because the wine is only $2.99 so the costs would balance as nicely on your bank account as they would on your tongue.

Are you a 2 Buck Chuck fan? Which is your favorite? Leave a comment below or on our Facebook page.

Cheers,

2 buck Chuck is the best value ever. I has the wine industry nervous and up in arms. There is no better value in the world. It is wide-open here in the San Francisco bay area where wines are plenty wih Napa and Sonoma Valley, and the Monterey bay area. Mamy many wineries here, but I feel are way overpriced. Te days of free wine tasting are forever gone now. Everybody wants their bottom line where nothing is free or complimenary anymore.
The founder of Charles Shaw, former Fetzer winery owner sez it very clear. “No good wine should ever cost more than $10”. He is right-on.

Trader Joe’s is the best consumer grocery concept ever devised. It is fresh, unique, and offers consumers first-class products the world-over. This wine selection can attest to that. Wonderful wine at an impeccable price for its loyal customer base. $2 for Shaw wines has not changed in over 5-8 years. I always enjoy these great wines everyone can afford. They are all obver the bay area and throughout California. Imagine, going wine tasting for a few mL
of wine paying $10-$20 per vist. I cam buy a case and party at home. These wineries can have their wine…..I’ll stick with Trader Joe’s and avoid the DUI.
